A tax certificate holder may apply for a tax deed application when two or more years have elapsed since April 1 of the year the certificate was issued. A tax deed application is made to the Tax Collector's Office. The application allows the property to be sold at public auction; however, the owner may retain the property by paying the taxes any time before the tax deed is issued.
